The company has a wealth of experience in the high net worth
insurance sector, already covering policies for equestrian pursuits,
home
and contents, antiques and travel as well as the motor industry.
The new scheme is designed for the high-value classic car, specialising
in policies for cover in excess of £25,000, but also caters
for standard classic cars. It includes the different categories
of insurance under which classic cars have to be legally insured.
To mark the launch of the new policy, Shearwater has taken over
sponsorship of the SR3 Radical racing car, driven in the 2004
Radical Enduro Championship by Essex-based driver James Baxter.
The car
was formerly sponsored by Maxted-Page & Baxter Ltd, Worldwide
dealers in fine historic and collectors cars for road and competition.
`Maxted-Page & Baxter Ltd is run from company founder Lee
Maxted-Page’s secure and de-humidified premises at his rural
Essex farmhouse and endorses the Shearwater policy. So much so,
his customers
can now benefit from the special terms of this policy, which
guarantees 24 hour a day, 7 days a week customer service. To
further emphasise
Shearwater’s link between equestrian sport and motor cars, they
also insure the livery yard owned by Maxted-Page’s wife Amanda,
who runs her equestrian business from their Essex home.
“Launching the new policy for classic cars is a natural progression
for us,” explains Shearwater Insurance’s managing director Jeremy
Lawton. “As a company we pride ourselves on the pursuit of excellence
at the top level and I am delighted to be involved with two sportsmen
who share that goal in Leslie Law and James Baxter. The SR3 has
performed consistently well in the 2004 Radical Enduro Championship,
having finished in each race, and Shearwater is proud to be associated
with such an exciting emerging racing talent.”
Lawton also has the chance of sharing in Olympic success in Athens
later this month. Leslie Law won a team silver in Sydney four years
ago with Shear H20 and will be hoping to go one better in Athens
with that horse’s younger brother Shear L’Eau. Both horses are
owned by Shearwater Insurance, which has supported Law for the
past 10 years.
Since its inception in 1992, Shearwater has specialised in the
equestrian sector and currently provides policies for horses, horseboxes
and trailers, yards, public liability and personal accident.
