Shearwater Insurance

The first semi-final for the Shearwater Young Horse classes took place at Hartpury College, where future stars came to book their places for Nationals.

With quality horses forward across all three age sections it was the youngest category who scored the highest final marks with Waverley Fellini, ridden by Greg Sims finishing on 8.86. The gelding is owned by Greg and Stena Hoerner, by Furstenball out of a Sandro Hit mare.

He had originally gone to Greg for backing earlier on in the year, but after they fell in love with him they purchased him from his breeder Sara Longworth. Greg commented “he is a sensitive ride but always tries his hardest and has three fantastic paces with so much range. He is now on a well-deserved holiday before he will start his preparation for the final in September. We're very excited about his future!”

Finishing in second place was Kensington II partnered by Ashley Jenkins with a score of 8.3.

As a foal Kensington II was KWPN dressage foal champion for the central region and has continued his success qualifying for the Shearwater Young Horse semi-finals on his first outing and now for the finals at Nationals. He is from the world famous Noria damline that includes the premium stallion and winner of the Bundeschampionate - So Unique, also from this damline the stallions Le Vivaldi, Furst Rousseau and Dramatic. This line also includes multiple GP horses know for the talent and rideability.

Closely following Kensington II in third was Mount St John Furstin Florida. Florida is a 17hh mare and was bought in December 2015 as a foal from Mount St John, she is owned by Charlotte Lutener and ridden by Jessica Dunn. Both Jessica and Charlotte share riding duties at home, although this season the ride belongs to Jessica as Charlotte has two other horses to concentrate on.

Finishing on a great score of 8.64 and taking the five-year-old title was Judith Davies Hawtins Lirica, ridden by Lucinda Elliot. By Lemony’s Nicket out of Elite Hawtins Delizia (Dimaggio\Brentano II) this mare finished as our Young Horse Four-Year-Old Champion last year at Nationals. In 2019 she has qualified for the Novice Gold regional championships and the Hickstead five-year-old National and International championships, as well as now adding our Young Horse Finals to her tally. She also won the young horse selection trial for five-year-old horses at Bolesworth and was the only horse to gain over eight across all age classes. When asked about her owner Judith said “This little dancing mare has a big fan club and always brings a smile to Lucinda’s face.”

Samantha Gualtieri and Femma Fatale 2 took the second spot with Sadie Smith taking the final qualifying position with the Charlotte Dujardin owned Alive and Kicking. This mare has been kindly lent to Sadie by Charlotte to compete in the Young Horse classes. Known as Audrey at home Charlotte got her in 2018 and Sadie described her as “the most beautiful lady.”

Mount St John reigned supreme in the Six-year-old class with Michael Eilberg piloting MSJ Dante VX to victory with a score of 8.16 and a tied second place saw a further MSJ qualification with MSJ For Rome ridden by Zoe Sleigh. Finishing in equal second was Olivia Oakeley riding her own Rock Diva.
