Hello, I’m Chloe Chubb and I am thrilled to be part of the Shearwater Team for 2018. I’m 35 years old, live in Kent and have been riding since I was a child.
I got bitten by the showing bug when I accidentally qualified my friend’s section A for the NPS Championships in Malvern at the age of eight. Since then, which seems an awful long time ago I’ve been fortunate to ride for some great producers, breeders and showing families at the highest level. I’m also a judge for various societies and have had the great honour of judging some of my favourite shows including RIHS, Royal Windsor and Royal Welsh.
Like many other passionate riders I work full time so I have to fit my passion around my daily life which as I am sure you all know can be pretty tough and involves a lot of early mornings and late hours.
Since getting too old for BSPS classes I’ve concentrated on Mountain and Moorland ponies and have been lucky to show a selection of my own as well as riding for some other studs and owners. I have mainly shown welsh ponies and in particular welsh section C’s for Popsters Stud and welsh section B’s for Moelview Stud. The last few years I have also shown a selection of Dartmoor ponies – mainly Shilstone Rocks ponies.
My section C passion comes mainly from my main man – Jacob who’s posh name is Popsters Loaded Weapon. I have owned Jacob for nearly 12 years now and he is 20 this year. He is my number one and although he doesn’t compete too much now when he does go out he always makes me laugh. Last year he deposited me in the Queen’s back garden at Royal Windsor Horse Show after coming 4th in a huge class. Jacob has had a very successful showing career but in the recent years we have competed in the Senior classes where in 2016 he finished reserve champion at Olympia. Since owning Jacob I have been lucky enough to then ride other Popsters ponies from the stud and for the last three years I competed the very beautiful Popsters Glamorize who qualified for HOYS for the last three years as well as Olympia Horse Show.
2016 saw my most successful season ever where I finally achieved my dream of winning at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) with Shilstone Rocks North Westerly owned by Lynda Calcutt. I also produced Laithehill Flute for the brand new junior class which he also won with his jockey Kinvara Garner. You try your whole life for a HOYS win and then two come along in the same year!
My 2017 season ended with two ponies qualified for Olympia both Popsters Glamorize and Shilstone Rocks North Westerly (or Windy as he is known) with Windy finally achieving the Best of Breed Award which something I was really pleased with to have finally achieved.
