Livery yards and private stables can be a haven for those who work or keep their horses there. But a lot of time, effort, equipment and machinery go into maintaining these environments, without which the whole operation could be thrown into complete chaos.

From small stable outfits to state of the art equestrian centres – it doesn’t matter to us at whether you’re one or the other, or somewhere in between. What matters to us is that if you’re affected by fire, flood or theft, you have already taken measures to help rebuild, refit and restock, so that peace can once again be restored.

All this will be done with the guidance of experts who literally know equine premises inside out, from indoor arenas to cross country courses

Stable Buildings

Far more than just a shelter, your stables are the epicentre of feeding, training and caring for your horses. Equipment, feed, other equestrian supplies and the buildings themselves would cost a lot to replace and the right insurance helps ensure you can do so.

Livery yards

In receiving payment for the care of other people’s horses, you become in part responsible and liable, for their welfare. A policy arranged by Shearwater can include the option of  livery yard liability including care, control and custody for all the horses on your premises.

Saddlery and Tack Insurance

It’s little wonder that theft of saddlery, tack and general equestrian supplies is rife. These items may be small, but they’re expensive, especially if custom made. If this equipment is stolen or irreplaceably damaged, you can be back in the saddle much sooner with the right insurance in place.

Tools, jumps and equipment

It can take a number of years for you to build up a good stock of jump equipment, such as water troughs, harrows, fencing tools and more. Each item can be covered under your insurance so if your highly valuable tools are stolen, or your carefully constructed jumps have been damaged in a fire, flood or storm, they can be covered under the same policy.

General contents and machinery

Equestrian contents and machinery are very specific, from small items like rugs to large machinery including horse walkers and generators. These and your finances, can all be protected, extending to include staff accommodation contents if required.

Hay, Straw and feeds

A well fed horse is a happy horse. It may be a basic principle, but it can still be insured, especially considering how much a stockpile of hay, feed and other comfort like shavings or straw for bedding can amount to.

Large Equestrian Centre

Such a building can present a multitude of insurance scenarios under one roof – public liability for on-site cafes, tack shops or event cover for shows to name just a few. But insurance arranged by Shearwater can help cover it all.

We appreciate Shearwater Insurance Services’ hands-on approach in dealing with our insurances. For example, recently we had a break-in at a property in Marylebone. Shearwater arranged a loss adjustor the next day and we had our claim verified and submitted within four weeks. The payment was sent to us very soon afterwards. Given the difficulties
